Prof. Dr. Bart Depreitere

Dr. Bart Depreitere graduated at KU Leuven Medical School (Belgium) in 1997. He completed neurosurgical training in Leuven in 2004, defended a PhD on pedal cyclist head protection at KU Leuven in 2004 and did a fellowship in spine and pediatric neurosurgery in Toronto in 2005-2006. Since 2006, he is staff at the University Hospitals Leuven in the pediatric oncology and spine programs. He is appointed full professor at KU Leuven. His main research is in cerebrovascular physiology, mechanics and monitoring of traumatic brain injury, in which he (co-)authored over 250 publications and supervised several PhD projects. He is in the editorial boards of Neurocritical Care and Brain & Spine. In 2022 he stablished an international consortium for the development of smart neuromonitoring, that was granted EU MSCA funding for a 10 PhD research and training program. He is immediate past president of the Belgian Society for Neurosurgery and past chairman of the EANS Trauma and Critical Care section. As from 2026 he is chairman of the department of neurosurgery at the University Hospitals Leuven.
