Dr. Roel Custers

Dr Roel Custers is an orthopedic surgeon, associate professor and clinical scientist at the department of orthopedic surgery at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU). He obtained his PhD in 2010 based on work in cartilage repair. He has a strong and focused research expertise on patient populations in need of clinical innovation. His specific research expertise is for young patients with severe knee problems. His clinical practice is at the Mobility Clinic, with referrals from across the Netherlands. He is primary investigator of multiple clinical, especially first-in-human, multicenter trails. He is chair of the working group “joint preserving treatments & regenerative medicine” of the Dutch Orthopedic Society (NOV) and manager research of the division of surgical specialties of the UMCU.
