Drs. Petra Groenenboom
Petra Groenenboom is a sports physician at Sports Valley, the sports medicine expertise centre of Gelderse Vallei Hospital in Ede. She provides sports medicine consultations and primarily works in elite sport. She also works extensively at the TeamNL Centre at Papendal, where she serves as a medical coordinator.
Since 2012, she has been affiliated with the Dutch Athletics Federation, where she is responsible for the medical support of Dutch elite athletes. In addition, she serves as the primary medical contact for skeleton, the Royal Netherlands Ski Association and several athlete management agencies, both nationally and internationally.
As part of her work, she supports elite athletes during training sessions, training camps and major national and international competitions. Her areas of expertise within sports medicine include injury prevention, the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, and working in elite sport. She collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons and radiologists.
Her own background as a former competitive 400-metre athlete contributed to her decision to pursue a career in elite sports medicine.
